Taking Up the Challenge
Have you ever felt that you are being called to do so much more in life?
I’ve been reflecting lately and just feel that God is calling us all to do so much more, an incredible fire burns in my heart to see the world saved and see the message of the gospel shared with anyone and everyone!
I’ve been reminded over the last few weeks of the importance of reading scripture
We cannot go out and do God’s work if we do not have the instructions that He’s outlined in the Bible.
How is your bible studying?
Is it a challenge?
I should hope so.
I am reminded that Satan will try his best to make sure that we do not find salvation in Jesus Christ. But just because we do become Christian doesn’t mean we’re out of the fire. Satan will relentlessly make your walk a hard path and will do his best to make sure you stumble along the way. What easier way to stunt our Christian walk than to make sure we don’t have the time or motivation to read the bible?
Joshua 1:8Joshua 1:8
English: World English Bible - WEB
8?This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate thereon day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.
says:
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
It’s saddening to know that in our society today, we rarely have time to meditate on our bibles day and night. We are lulled into a belief that we are constantly busy and we forget about the important things in our spiritual life!! People nowadays barely have time for their family let alone the condition of their souls.
Is bible studying no longer important to our walk? I should hope not!
Take up the challenge and read your word and I will guarantee that God will shape your life and will give you an amazing vision and desire and passion for your life.
If you choose not to study the word of God, then I am confident you will miss out on God’s many blessings and lessons that He has prepared for you.
Here’s an interesting way to put it into perspective about the state of our bible studying time (bear with me as this will require some knowledge of math hehe):
Assumptions:
- The average person becomes a Christian at age 14
- The average Canadian dies at age 80
- The average Christian reads his or her bible for 10 minutes a day
Then:
- The average Christian would’ve lived 66 years reading the bible
- At 10 minutes a day, that works out to be roughly 87,600 minutes of reading the bible a year
- If an average Canadian lives to 80 years (assuming this person is a Christian), then he or she would’ve read the bible for 5,781,600 minutes in his or her life
- Of course, being a Christian for 66 years would equate to 34,689,600 minutes of our life; this works out to us only spending roughly 16% of our life reading the bible or 11 YEARS in total of reading the bible!
What did we do for the other 55 years?
Think about it.
We are young right now – how will we shape our future spiritual life?
Are you willing to take up the challenge to spend more than 10 minutes a day studying scripture?

I really enjoyed this blog post/article. So true that everyone is very buisy these days and squeezing in time to read the bible I believe has gotten harder. Satan he’s prowling around looking for whom he can devore…….Ephesians 6:15-17 “And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” verse 15 super speaks to me that my feet need to be “shod” with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

We look at this and sometimes feel that it’s too intimidating to try and finish such a great book. But from a conference, I have learnt that if you should read a chapter a day, you can technically finish a book in a month. Each book does not take more than 5 minutes to read, depending on the reading level and the speed that you read. I’ve begun picking up my bible before I go to bed, and reading two chapters of Psalm a night, and hopefully I will be able to keep it consistent.
Definitely take up the challenge guys!

If you think about it, people take a similar approach to praying as well and usually most people pray for LESS than 10 minutes a day!
